The Tae-kwon-do kid

She made me wait long enough, but on Monday, Lyric's 5-month unbirthday, she started pummeling my belly and, well, it's awesome. And totally bizarre. And also the start of many conversations where I find myself talking at length to my belly, often to the dismay of Kevin, the cats, and often times, my co-workers.

Me: "Hi there! Hey! Hey, stop kicking me! Damn, you are so cute. Ouch!"

Co-worker, whispering: "She's doing it again. Should we call someone?"

The only way I know how to describe any of this is being totally and completely in love with someone you've never met. I don't mean like you were in love with your poster of Kirk Cameron (or Heather Locklear) in 5th grade.

Her new busy-as-a-bee movement, which always waits until I'm just sitting around quietly minding my own business, finally makes her seem completely real: the baby just behind the curtain.

And she clearly doesn't like it when I roll-over...or she does and is just flipping around to find a new good spot to hang out in. (note: according to babycenter.com, she does NOT have flippers. anymore.)

Her first real kicks came when I was getting all choked up reading this article. I believe her first communiqué could be interpreted along the lines of "Don't even think about it! I'm not ready yet!"
